Determined by a congressional act in 1977, the Clean Air Act appointed the EPA as the overseeing congressional program to curb the emissions from several sources. In 1989 the then president Bush signed into to law the start of tougher laws to curb emissions and green house gasses. There are 9 areas of fuels called Alternative Fuels as determined by an Executive Order. The fuels were determined to be safer for the environment and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. They also offer a more sustainable and renewable energy source using non-imported fuel sources.
The range of an electric vehicle depends on the make and model, as well as driving conditions. However, most EVs have a range of at least 100 miles on a single charge.
In a gasoline fire the liquid fuel spreads on the ground and forms a puddle
of flammable fluid.
In a compressed gas fire, the fuel is under pressure and should stay inside the fuel tank. The compressed fuel tank has safety valves called Pressure Relief Device, (PRD) that hold the compressed gas until it is unsafe and then vents it off away from the fuel tank.
In an electric vehicle fire the battery or (ESS) is protected from runaway fire unless the battery case is compromised. A specialty trained first responder is needed to keep this battery from cheating up causing a thermal event. Shutting down the high voltage system and containing the high voltage requires special training.
